FINGERTIPS TOP 10
introduction
The Fingertips Top 10 page contains two Top 10 lists, one
labeled Current and one labeled All-Time.
Simply speaking, these are two lists of very good songs that are available as
downloads legally and for free on the web. Right-clicking on the names of the songs
will deliver you the download, if nothing unusual has happened to the link without my knowledge.
The Current list will only hold songs for up to three months, so
this is a list of songs that I like a lot that I have come across relatively
recently.

"You don't have to have a
point to have a point." |
Be aware
that songs don't always hit the chart the same week I've written about them;
sometimes they take a while to grow on me. Be aware, too, that songs do not
need to be new (as in released this year) to be on the current Top 10 list. I have never
bought into the music industry's relentless push of the brand new, but that's
another story (which you can read about
here, if you're interested). |
The All-Time list, on the other
hand, is an effort to display my 10 favorite free and legal downloads, period.
This list does not tend to change very often; it's more or less the list-watching equivalent of watching grass grow. But great songs are great songs, and shouldn't be shunted ceaselessly aside for this year's models.
And oh yeah: this is subjective. Not to mention erratic, idiosyncratic, and
completely subject to change at any time, for any reason.
Songs that move out of the Current Top 10 but do not crack the All-Time Top 10 will not disappear from
Fingertips,
they will simply move into an archive of "retired"
top 10 songs.
