Okay so this quickly becomes an art rather
than a science, the idea of which record label ends up on the Smaller Labels
page and which ends up on the main Music Site Guide page under "Record
Companies." Part of the decision will be based on whether the acts
signed to a given label have any general name recognition or not, and I will put
myself in the position of judging that admittedly slippery concept.
Another part of the decision will relate to whether there is any sort of
mainstream or big-money feel to the enterprise, which may well have to do with
whether the label has been started or is backed by someone previously associated
with a major label. Thus, something like David Byrne's
Luaka Bop Records ends up on the main page, even as the acts signed there are
largely obscure.
Well, that's probably more than enough of a non-explanation explanation. Good
thing not many people are going to click down this far.
