So the Retired Top 10 page is a list of songs that have been retired from either the Current Top 10 or the All-Time Top 10. Note that songs are far more frequently retired from the Current Top 10 than from the All-Time Top 10, since the Current Top 10 chart has a three-month limit; once a song reaches that limit, it is automatically retired, unless it is then placed on the All-Time chart. Which doesn't happen that often.

Songs may be retired from the All-Time chart when a new song comes along that deserves a place on that list (at which point something's gotta give) or when I finally get tired of it or (this is what happens most of the time) when the song's free and legal MP3 disappears from the internet.

Songs that are removed from the All-Time chart will be listed in bold, marked with the word "ALL-TIME," and placed at the top of the retired list.

Songs that are retired after a three-month reign on the Current Top 10 chart will be listed here in bold. Songs that reached the number one position on the chart for more than two weeks will be marked, further, with "#1."

Note in every case that a song's being "retired" doesn't mean it has stopped being good.

From late May 2004 onward, songs have a date next to them indicating when they left the Top 10 chart.

Each song's link should take you directly to where you can download the song, unless the link happens to be broken at this point and I haven't noticed it yet. When I discover that a song is no longer available as a free and legal MP3, I'll keep it on the list but remove the underline link. Click on the song in this case and the link will simply take you to the old TWF blurb, in case you want to still read about it.

As of late 2007, I will be trying to add links to buy MP3s via Amazon when a song is no longer available as a free and legal download but is in fact available for purchase. To begin with, these links have been added in the This Week's Finds archive pages. Slowly but surely they will begin to appear here as well.
