THE BASIC IDEA
The Fingertips Prize Closet is a list of available gifts for people kind enough to voluntarily support Fingertips with a donation of $10 or more (while midwinter support levels are in effect!).
The Prize Closet page has two basic parts. There are some special offers listed near the top on the right hand column, which should be self-explanatory. And then there are the colored boxes listing available CDs, which are available for either a $15 or a $10 donation, as follows:
* one green box CD or two blue box CDs: $15
* one blue box CD: $10
Most of the CDs offered in the Prize Closet were supplied promotionally and therefore have promotional stickers of one sort of another on them. They are not for re-sale; the record companies are okay with me offering them as gifts to contributors, however. A few CDs over time may also sneak into the Prize Closet that are CDs I bought for my own collection that I for whatever reason no longer need. I also have a fair number of vinyl records, most from the late '70s and early '80s, that I may begin to offer intermittently as well, if there's interest.
MAKING YOUR SELECTION
For better or worse, this is not at this point an automated process, so bear with me. It's not as complicated as it may look, and at least you have the consolation of knowing this is a one on one process, facilitated by the internet but conducted human being to human being.
Once you look over the offers and decide what you may like, you have to let me know about it so I can reserve your selection while awaiting your donation. Because of the limited quantities you may want to list at least one if not two alternate selections.
Address an email to prizecloset at fingertipsmusic (obviously changing the word at to the at sign, and then adding the usual dot com). It will help if you put the word "selection" in the subject line. In the body of the email, please list four things:
1) Your name and postal address (required so I can send you the gift, of course!)
2) Your choice of gift and, if possible, your second and third choices should the first not be available.
3) The dollar amount you will be donating, determined by the stated value of the subscription gift. (I'd like you to specifically note this in the email so I know that you're aware of the appropriate donation level for the gift you're requesting.)
4) The method of payment to be used. There are two choices: PayPal or personal check, as described in the next section.
That's all to the email. You will receive a return email which will confirm the availability of your selection. If it's still available, I will hold it until I receive the donation. If you've selected to donate via personal check, I will give you my postal address in the confirmation email. Once the money is received, gifts will be shipped within two to three weeks. On to how the donation works....
MAKING YOUR DONATION
Remember that this is, so far, a relatively unautomated process. A little old-fashioned ecommerce never hurt anybody, I don't think.
Okay, so you've made your selection, you've sent your email, and you've received confirmation. How to proceed depends upon which method of donation you've chosen--Amazon.com, or personal check.
The PayPal option: This option is extremely straightforward if you're already registered with PayPal, but if not, it's also easy, and does not require you to register. You can pay using one of your regular credit cards via the very secure PayPal system. You'll find the Fingertips PayPal button here. Once I receive notification of the donation, I will send your gift out within two to three weeks.
The personal check option: This is also straightforward, but it will obviously take a little longer, and is only available to subscribers from the U.S. All you need to do is write a personal check (made out to Jeremy Schlosberg) for the proper donation amount and send it to me (I will have already provided you with the address in the confirmation email). I will notify you once the check has cleared the bank; once that's set, your gift will ship within two to three weeks.
And I think that's about all. Any questions, please email the prizecloset at fingertipsmusic address and write "question" in the subject line. I'll get back to you as quickly as possible. If this isn't the smoothest process you've ever been involved with, remember, it is one hundred percent genuine. I hope eventually to be able to take credit cards directly, but I have to see how big or small a deal this turns out to be. In the meantime, thanks so much for your interest!
