MASTER ARTIST LIST
introduction

The Master Artist List is a list of the names of all the musicians and bands that are featured within Fingertips, along with a link to the page where the artist in question is mentioned.

To get to the specific place where the artist is mentioned within Fingertips, click the link to the right of the name. If the artist is mentioned within the Select Artist Guide, the link on this page will take you there, where you'll find a brief description of the songs this person (or band) has on the web and links to the appropriate places. If the artist is mentioned within This Week's Finds, the link will take you to a paragraph about the song that was featured. Top 10 links are listed to give you a quick way of seeing which artists have been featured in the Top 10 over the years; the links themselves merely take you to a mention of the song and the link to it; if you are interested in reading comments about a particular song, follow the This Week's Finds link.

In a few cases, dating back to Fingertips' earliest days, there will be artists listed on the Retired Top 10 page that were never featured in "This Week's Finds." These were the songs that I "seeded" the original Top 10 chart with, and remain the only songs on the site that are linked to without commentary.

The abbreviations used on the Master Artist List are as follows: This Week's Finds (TWF, plus the month/year); Select Artist Guide (SAG); the Album Bin (AB); and the Top 10 charts (T10c for songs on the Current chart, T10a for songs on the All-Time chart, and T10x for a retired Top 10 song).

Free and legal MP3s on the web can be unfortunately ephemeral. And so by now there have been many many free and legal MP3s featured here on Fingertips that have subsequently become unavailable online. Artists who have had songs removed but remain active in another part of Fingertips remain here on the Master Artist List; songs that are no longer available as a free and legal download are marked in this case with an asterisk (*). If marked with two asterisks (**), the song is not available as a free and legal download but a buy link is provided in the archive for purchasing the song via Amazon (usually for 89 or 99 cents).

Note that retired Top 10 songs that over time become unavailable will still be noted with a T10x next to the artist's name on the Master Artist List, but there will be no link associated with the T10x at that point. You can go to the original blurb about the song by following the TWF link with the asterisk.

Artists whose featured MP3s have disappeared and who are not featured on Fingertips for other reasons (perhaps listed in the Select Artist Guide, or on the Album Bin page) have been removed from the Master Artist List. If you're curious to see who used to be here but isn't anymore, you can visit the Artists Formerly Listed on the Master Artist List List.

Understand that it's challenging keeping up with disappearing MP3s, so there may well at any time be musicians who belong on the Former list that are still on the Master list. I appreciate the patience of Fingertips visitors on the matter.
