I call this an "intelligent guide," and by that I mean three things:

1) The web site itself aims to be substantively intelligent--that is, cleanly designed and meaningfully presented. This isn't about bells and whistles, buttons and animations. It's about good music and where to find it online.

2) The music I discuss is itself intelligent music--that is, music created and produced with discrimination and spirit. If the marketplace has squeezed out the idea of radio stations that play intelligent music, then the web is really the only place to go to find this kind of music and be able to listen to it in advance of buying it.

3) The music I point you to will be music that is legally available. This strikes me as the only intelligent position to take regarding music on the web. I say this not because I care about the recording industry, which is as stupid and greedy an industry as exists. I say this because I care about the musicians. I do not believe in taking music, for free, that the musicians who made it did not intend to distribute for free. But here's the great little secret that's the key to Fingertips: many worthy and talented musicians do offer a lot of free music for you already on the web. Fingertips is here to make this music easier to find.

If you'd like a more general introduction to Fingertips, head to the Introduction page. If on the other hand you'd like to hear more about this web site's underlying philosophy, I'd suggest reading the Rules of Thumb.
