Radio used to be the place where you could discover a wide variety of interesting new music. The disc jockeys on free-form radio stations kept a close eye on what music was coming out, decided what was great, and played it for you.

In those days, there was nothing better for a music fan than to listen to an idiosyncratic, well-informed DJ play the music that he or she liked best.

This model of music presentation, in which an informed individual presents what he or she believes to be worthy music to a broad audience, has been killed off, the victim of market forces. It's a long and frustrating story which I won't get into at this point.

Ah, but the web--the web is by its nature un-take-over-able (despite efforts by traditional media companies to do just that!). There is plenty of room here for informed individuals to put their ideas and observations out there for all to see (or not see; obviously, getting attention on the web as a mere individual is a bit of a challenge).

So enjoy this site: the work of one idiosyncratic and well-informed music aficionado who knows only the smallest amount of HTML code. The web even gives me the chance to be even a bit more DJ-like than simply writing about and linking to songs, as in 2006 I've introduced Fingertips podcasts. Check 'em out if you have the time.
