Welcome to the Fingertips Contests page. Here's the place to look for stuff that you can win with very little effort and no contribution necessary. Of course you'll need a bit of luck. But don't we all.
If on the other hand you want a gift without requiring any luck at all, you're always free to visit the Prize Closet for an ongoing list of CDs that are available as gifts for donations of $10/year and above.
Win July Flame, the new Laura Veirs album
Laura Veirs was one of Fingertips' earliest finds: a fully-formed, self-assured singer/songwriter I had never heard of until I started combing the internet for music back in 2003. I've been a fan of hers ever since, even when she spent a few years signed to Nonesuch--theoretically good exposure for her, but the end of free and legal MP3s for Fingertips.
I hope her parting of ways with Nonesuch after three releases was reasonably amicable and that she's happy with her newfound independence--July Flame has been released in the U.S. on her own Raven Marching Band label. The split certainly didn't hurt her musically; I'd say this new album, produced by Tucker Martine, is as strong an album as I've yet heard from her. Check out this short documentary on the making of the album to get you psyched about it.
And be sure to listen to "Wide-Eyed, Legless," available as a free and legal MP3 (and featured on "This Week's Finds" in December). If you like what you hear, be sure to enter the contest by sending an email according to the directions to the right, and then crossing your fingers.
Thanks to Laura and Stephanie for the goods.
How to enter the contest
If you would like to be eligible to win a copy of July Flame, send an email to prizecloset at fingertipsmusic dot com with "Veirs" in the subject line. In the body of the email, this time, please write:
1) something good that's happened to you recently (I can use some good news about now); and
2) your first name and last name, because, as usual, if you're going to win, I'm going to need to know. Anonymity has its limits.
Please use an email address that you check regularly so if you win, you'll be able to find out. You'd be surprised by the number of times I try to contact the winner and they've disappeared into the misty ether of the internet.
There will be two winners this time, selected at random from eligible entries.
The deadline for entry is Friday January 29. The drawing will take place shortly thereafter; only the winner will be notified; yada yada yada.
