Win the new Jill Sobule CD
Jill Sobule's new album, California Years, is being officially released this week. You may have heard by now of its unusual history. After her last record company went out of business, Sobule decided to see if she could fund a new album through fan donations only. In January 2008, she launched a web site dedicated to raising money for the album. Her goal was $75,000, to be reached via gifts to donors of various levels, from $10 (you get a free download) to $10,000 (you get to sing on the album; and yes, one fan gave it up for $10K). By early March, she achieved her goal, and ended up with almost $89,000 in donations. California Years is the end result.
And me, I'm hearing the album title in relation to the idea of "dog years'--Calfornia years also advancing at a pace unlike normal human years. I could be wrong about this, of course.
To give you a taste of the album, you can download the song "A Good Life." To give you a taste of what Jill Sobule is like, you can learn to play "A Good Life" on the guitar via one of Sobule's charming instructional videos. She's got instructional videos for a number of the songs on the album; you'll see links for them from the page with "A Good Life" on it.
There will be three winners. Enter the contest by sending an email according to the directions to the right, and then crossing your fingers.
Thanks to Toolshed and Pinko Records for the goods.

How to enter the contest
If you'd like to be eligible to win a California Years CD, send an email to prizecloset at fingertipsmusic dot com with "Jill" in the subject line. In the body of the email, this time, please write:
1) Your favorite album of 2009 so far (just curious); and:
2) your first name and last name, because, as usual, if you're going to win, I'm going to need to know. Anonymity has its limits.
Please use an email address that you check regularly so if you win, you'll be able to find out. You'd be surprised by the number of times I try to contact the winner and they've disappeared into the misty ether of the internet.
Two winners will be selected at random from eligible entries.
The deadline for entry this time is Friday April 24. The drawing will take place shortly thereafter; only the winners will be notified; yada yada yada.
Keep your eye on this page for future contests, which will randomly occur when you least expect it
And, of course, if you don't end up winning, there is a page of many other prizes available (for a donation to the site) on the regular Prize Closet page. Feel free to browse there; donations are always welcome, and deeply appreciated.
