AMAZON MP3 BUY LINKS ON FINGERTIPS
New in the fall of 2007, Fingertips will feature buy links for Amazon MP3s in the "This Week's Finds" Archive.
The reason for this is simple. As time goes by, an unfortunately large number of free and legal MP3s disappear, for a variety of reasons. I've always done my best to keep up with dead links; when I discover that a song once featured in "This Week's Finds" has vanished, I've made it clear in the Archive--the song description goes from black to gray and the words "no longer available" appear in red.
But just because a song is no longer available as a free and legal download does not mean it ceases to be a good song. The fact that a goodly number of high-quality free and legal MP3s in the "This Week's Finds" Archive disappear has always been a point of frustration for me.
With the introduction of individual MP3 sales by Amazon, I've found a reasonable solution. When a song is no longer available as a free and legal MP3 but is for sale on Amazon, I will provide a link which you can click to go and buy the song. MP3s on Amazon are generally 89 or 99 cents.
Songs no longer available as free and legal MP3s but now available via Amazon will also be indicated on both the Master Artist List and the Artists Formerly Listed on the Master Artist List List by two asterisks (**) placed next to the "This Week's Finds" date of the song in question.
If you haven't noticed, the "This Week's Finds" Archive is rather large. It will be an ongoing work in progress to identify defunct free and legal MP3s that are now available via Amazon, but I hope to make some good headway over the coming months.
Feel like supporting the effort? Easy: click on one of the Amazon links and buy an MP3.
