MP3 Blog Aggregators
And so there are now of course so many MP3 blogs online (hundreds? thousands? no one really knows) that somewhere along the way, some people felt it would be a good idea to create a new sort of "meta-blog" that would aggregate all the music being posted daily (some might say incessantly) by all of these zillions of MP3 blogs. Thus was born the concept of the MP3 blog aggregator.
If I sound a wee bit skeptical that's because I am. First of all, there are so so many blogs out there that I'm really not sure what kind of service it is to offer all the music everyone is posting everywhere on one site. Does anyone have time to slog through it all? I guess if you have a lot of time on your hands and a zest for endless exploring this might be helpful. I personally don't have that much time on my hands.
Second of all, and obviously enough from the Fingertips point of view, the MP3 blog aggregators lump together all MP3 blogs, whether the music is legal or not. Call me hopelessly old-fashioned, but I still don't like the idea of illegally distributed MP3s. So that's mostly why I'm burying this very short list deep inside of Fingertips, unlikely to be discovered by all but the most determined site-diggers.
The Hype Machine
The Hype Machine has grown over the years from a clean-looking, reasonably easy to use example of an MP3 blog aggregator into a somewhat busier, not all that easy to use behemoth of a site, just waiting to be bought by some corporate online media giant. Until then, however, the site's heart is definitely in the right place--Anthony, its founder, is a big music fan and (apparently) a talented programmer. But I fear the non-intuitive, over-busy design and excess number of functions will try the patience of anyone not in their 20s. Which is probably okay, given the target audience.
Elbo.ws
Elbo.ws has been around a while and has likewise evolved; nowadays the two sites aren't as different-looking as they used to be, but note that Elbo.ws has a lot more ads.
